East Canton High School hosted teachers from around the state in the Fostering STEM Institute Residency Program. Staff and students showed how East Canton implements STEM, Strategies That Engage Minds. During the day students held round table discussions with the visitors and talked about how the STEM culture is school wide and an integral part in developing and preparing them for their future. The participants visited each classroom and observed how STEM is in every class with design thinking, mastery learning and integrated curriculum. The Fostering STEM Institute is a professional learning program designed for instructional coaches, instructional leaders, and lead teachers of schools implementing STEM education. The purpose of the program is to strengthen and further develop the instructional coaching practices around STEM culture and education. https://osln.org/how-we-help/professional-development/fostering-stem-institute/

East Canton Schools Honor Local Veterans at Annual Veterans Day Breakfast and Assembly East Canton Schools hosted their annual Veterans Day breakfast and assembly, bringing together students, staff, and community members to honor the service and sacrifice of local veterans. The event provided a heartfelt tribute, with students, staff, and families all joining in to express gratitude for those who have served and continue to protect our freedoms. The morning began with a breakfast attended by veterans and their families, setting the stage for a moving ceremony. Students read original poems expressing their appreciation for veterans, and guests watched a touching recorded presentation featuring hundreds of students sharing personal messages of thanks. The high school choir and band performed powerful renditions of patriotic songs that resonated deeply with the veterans and the audience. The highlight of the event was an inspiring speech by 1st Lieutenant Allen Middaugh, a 2004 graduate of East Canton High School. Middaugh shared his journey from an explosive ordnance disposal technician to the Air Force and CIA, ultimately bringing him back to his roots in Hornet Country. His story illustrated the dedication, courage, and resilience of our veterans, leaving a lasting impact on everyone in attendance. East Canton Schools’ Veterans Day assembly remains a beloved tradition, fostering a strong sense of community and respect for those who have dedicated their lives to the country. The event underscored the school’s commitment to honoring veterans and teaching students the value of service, sacrifice, and gratitude.
